From VAT registration and returns to complex transaction advice, get support shaped around your business. SAIF Chartered Accountants connects the tax position with your contracts, accounting records and next commercial decision.
VAT consultancy services
A new customer market, supply chain or contract can change the VAT questions your team faces. Advice is most useful when the commercial facts are clear and there is still time to act.
We work with business owners and finance teams on specific questions or a defined programme of support. Our starting point is your transaction—not a generic checklist or an assumption that last year’s treatment still fits.
Choose your starting point
Businesses searching for a VAT consultant may need a first registration, help with returns, or an answer to a difficult transaction. Our services can be combined in one agreed engagement, with the responsibilities and deliverables made clear.
Review eligibility, the registration date and supporting documents. Coordinate the EmaraTax application and responses to information requests.
Reconcile sales, purchases, credit notes and imports. Review output tax and eligible input tax before management approval and authorised submission.
Assess the balance and supporting evidence, identify recovery questions and prepare the application work. A credit balance is not a guaranteed refund.
Review selected periods, invoices and reconciliations. Record findings, exposure areas and corrective actions before an issue becomes an urgent enquiry.
Investigate errors and affected periods, assess the correct procedure and organise a supported response. Representation requires the appropriate appointment.
Review cessation or structural changes, outstanding returns and balances. Agree the application work and continuing obligations before closing a tax account.
The distinctions that affect your return
UAE VAT has a standard rate of 5%. Zero-rated supplies remain taxable at 0%; exempt supplies are different. Input-tax recovery depends on the use of the cost and applicable conditions, not only the rate on a sales invoice. Ministry of Finance VAT overview.
Output VAT is charged where the standard rate applies. Check the value, tax point and invoice details.
The qualifying conditions and evidence still matter. Do not classify every overseas sale as zero-rated.
Related input tax is generally not recoverable; mixed activities can require apportionment.
Establish why the transaction falls outside UAE VAT. This is not a universal input-tax recovery rule.
For purchases used across taxable and exempt activities, review attribution and shared costs against the FTA input-tax apportionment guidance.
From advice to VAT compliance
VAT returns and related payments are generally due within 28 days of the end of the assigned tax period. Confirm your period and deadline in EmaraTax. Do not assume that every business files quarterly. FTA filing guidance.

Specialist transaction advice
Before signing a new agreement, assess the supply, parties, location, invoicing arrangements and responsibility for VAT. We flag unclear tax clauses, missing facts and implementation questions.
Map the commercial flow alongside invoices, customs records and delivery evidence. Review overseas purchases and sales separately instead of treating all foreign transactions alike.
Review purchase categories, business use and supporting evidence. Identify recovery questions, mixed-use costs and items needing a more detailed assessment before amounts reach a return.
Examine mainland dealings, goods movements and designated-zone conditions. Connect the VAT analysis to actual transactions rather than assuming a free-zone licence settles the answer.
Investigate the facts behind an issue, reconcile the amounts and assess the appropriate next step. Application preparation, representation and historical reviews are scoped separately where needed.
Translate the agreed treatment into tax-code rules, invoice checks and review responsibilities. Help finance and sales teams recognise exceptions instead of relying on a default software setting.
Need an application or routine compliance instead? See VAT registration or our VAT services and return-filing support.
Questions behind the numbers
| Situation | What we examine | Useful records |
|---|---|---|
| Overseas customer or supplier | Supply classification, location, obligations and supporting conditions. | Contract, invoice, delivery or service evidence and party details. |
| Mixed business expenditure | Purpose, use, recovery restrictions and allocation questions. | Purchase invoices, cost categories and allocation workings. |
| Recharges and group arrangements | Who supplies what, to whom, and under which contractual relationship. | Intercompany agreements, underlying invoices and recharge schedules. |
| Discounts, cancellations or credit notes | Reason for the adjustment and its relationship to the original supply. | Original invoice, correspondence and adjustment trail. |
| Business expansion or restructuring | The transaction sequence, assets, parties and implementation date. | Structure chart, draft agreements and transaction timeline. |
Standard-rated, zero-rated, exempt and outside-scope are different classifications. The label chosen affects the next questions; an overseas address or a software tax code is not enough to establish the answer. Refer to the FTA’s VAT guides and public clarifications.
Mainland and free zones
Free-zone status is not a blanket VAT exemption. Designated-zone provisions apply to particular transactions under conditions, especially goods; services require separate consideration. We review the supply chain rather than transferring a Corporate tax conclusion into VAT. FTA designated-zone guide.
For a closer look at goods movements, services, registration and common customer questions, see our VAT for free-zone companies guide. Our UAE free-zone services cover the wider accounting and reporting work.
Scope follows your actual activities. Industry labels alone do not determine tax treatment.
Our advisory process
Agree the question, scope, deadline and intended use of the advice.
Read the contracts and records; identify missing facts and relevant guidance.
Document the analysis, assumptions, practical actions and unresolved points.
Agree owners for invoicing, tax-code, evidence and reporting changes.

Agree the level of written work before starting. A short call, a transaction memorandum and a full historical review are different assignments.
When uncertainty remains
The FTA private-clarification service addresses uncertainty that remains after analysing the law, regulations and published guidance. Where appropriate, we can help organise the facts and prepare the question and supporting documents.
Our opinion is not an FTA decision. A clarification request, reconsideration and a correction to a return are different procedures; assess the issue before choosing a route. FTA private-clarification service.
Share the complete correspondence, reference, response deadline and related records. Preserve earlier submissions. We will assess the requested work and appropriate authority before coordinating a response.
Do not assume that requesting advice pauses a statutory deadline or an authority enquiry.
Scope and professional fees
We do not have fixed plans for every business. Fees depend on complexity, available evidence, periods involved, urgency and the deliverable you need. A focused contract review is different from reconstructing several years of transactions.
Tell us your question, transaction background and deadline. We can then identify the required documents and explain what is—and is not—included.
Request a tailored advisory proposal →Routine accounting and bookkeeping, return filing, software configuration and FTA representation should have clear responsibilities. We can work with Zoho Books, Odoo, Xero and QuickBooks records, subject to the agreed system and access arrangements.
Coordinate with Corporate tax advice and e-invoicing preparation where relevant, while keeping their legal requirements distinct.
Practical answers
Yes. The engagement can combine VAT registration, return preparation, refund support and transaction advice. We agree the tasks and responsibilities around your company, with specialist reviews where the facts require them. The linked service pages explain the individual workstreams.
Start with your question, licence and registration details, relevant contracts, invoices and any FTA correspondence. For a historical review, include the affected returns, sales and purchase registers and VAT ledger reconciliations. Send confidential records through the agreed secure channel.
Recovery may require attribution and apportionment rather than claiming all purchase VAT. Identify costs used for taxable activities, exempt activities and shared overheads, then assess the applicable method and recovery restrictions.
Yes, subject to the agreed periods and scope. A health check compares selected records, tax treatment and returns, producing findings and corrective actions. It is a private review, not an FTA audit or a guarantee that the authority will accept every position.
A VAT consultant analyses how the rules apply to your transactions and helps turn that analysis into practical actions. The engagement may cover contracts, cross-border trade, recovery questions, system controls or an identified compliance issue. Registration and routine filing can be included separately.
Advisory addresses why a transaction receives a particular treatment and what evidence supports it. Return filing reports the relevant amounts for a period. A reconciled return does not by itself establish that every transaction has been classified correctly.
Yes. We can scope a specific issue or ongoing support around your company profile. Provide the question, relevant documents, transaction value and deadline so that the required work can be assessed.
Do not assume that a foreign billing address proves the treatment. The type of supply, parties, place-of-supply rules and applicable conditions need review. We examine the contract and supporting evidence before recommending how to invoice.
Not necessarily. Accounting for output tax and entitlement to recover input tax are separate questions. Review the nature and use of the purchase; do not assume the entries always cancel.
Yes. A free-zone licence does not create a blanket VAT exemption. Designated-zone rules affect specified transactions subject to conditions, and services need separate consideration. Corporate tax free-zone treatment does not determine the VAT answer.
Yes, within an agreed scope. Share the property use, contract, payment schedule and relevant supporting records. Different components of an arrangement can raise different questions, so a blanket answer based only on the industry is not sufficient.
Agree the deliverable at the outset. A written assignment can identify the facts reviewed, assumptions, analysis, recommended treatment, supporting evidence and unresolved points. A short consultation should not be mistaken for a full transaction review.
No. Our analysis is professional advice, not an authority decision. Where a genuine uncertainty remains after reviewing the law and published guidance, we can assess whether an FTA private clarification request is appropriate and assist with preparation.
Yes. Keep the original records and correspondence, identify the affected periods and arrange a prompt assessment. The next step depends on the facts and applicable rules; do not automatically offset an earlier error against the next return.
Fees depend on complexity, transaction volume, record quality, the number of issues and the required deliverable. SAIF does not use fixed plans for every business. Authority charges, accounting cleanup and representation should be distinguished from advisory fees.
Compare relevant experience, clarity of scope, written deliverables, access to the adviser and how advice will be implemented. Verify tax-agent credentials where representation is required. Unsupported rankings or promises of guaranteed savings are not a substitute for a sound review.
Yes, the work can be scoped around your existing platform and available records. We focus on tax treatment, mappings and controls. Configuration changes, integrations and routine bookkeeping should be expressly agreed.
No. Outcomes depend on the facts, evidence, law and the FTA’s decisions. Our role is to prepare reasoned advice and supported work within the agreed scope, not to promise an authority outcome.
