Shams Auditors in Sharjah Media City

Clear financial reporting for media, creative and service businesses. SAIF Chartered Accountants helps you organise the records, define the engagement and address reporting questions before they delay completion.

A clear starting point

Shams audit requirements: accounts, appointment and filing.

The published 2024 regulations require annual accounts and an auditor’s examination and report. Articles 62–65 address accounts, records, financial years and appointment. Confirm how current Shams instructions apply to your company.

Before appointment, verify the signing firm’s acceptance with the authority. This page does not claim a Shams approval or registration number for SAIF Chartered Accountants.

Keep these checks separate

  • Accounts: identify the reporting period and accounting framework.
  • Appointment: confirm eligibility, independence and engagement terms.
  • Submission: obtain the current deadline, format and filing instructions.
  • Tax: assess registration, return and supporting-document obligations separately.

A company’s renewal experience is not a reliable substitute for reviewing its reporting obligations.

Reporting that reflects your business

Different revenue models need different evidence.

These are examples of audit-preparation issues. The actual procedures depend on your licensed activities, contracts, systems and material risks.

AGENCIES

Advertising and marketing

Reconcile retainers, campaign milestones, advance receipts and media-buying costs. Separate your own fees from amounts collected or paid on behalf of clients; support gross-versus-net presentation with the contracts.

CREATIVE WORK

Production, design and content

Connect project budgets, freelancer invoices, delivery approvals and work in progress. Review incomplete projects, cancellation terms and costs carried into the next reporting period.

DIGITAL

Online and subscription businesses

Reconcile platform settlements, gateway fees, refunds, subscriptions and foreign-currency receipts. Match settlement reports to the ledger instead of recording only the net bank receipt.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

Consultancy and small businesses

Support billed and unbilled work, expense claims, owner funding and related-party payments. Keep business and personal expenditure separate and document the basis for significant estimates.

A useful reconciliation trail

Follow one campaign from agreement to collection.

  1. 01 · ContractFee, deliverables, dates and payment terms
  2. 02 · DeliveryMilestones, approvals and third-party costs
  3. 03 · LedgerRevenue, deferred amounts and receivables
  4. 04 · SettlementBank receipts, fees, credits and differences

Preparation workflow shown for planning. A contract, an invoice and a bank receipt may fall in different accounting periods; explain the differences instead of forcing them to match.

Shams audit document checklist

Prepare a reconciled file, not a folder of disconnected invoices.

Assign one owner to each schedule. Provide a consistent trial balance version and track changes through to the final accounts.

Company and appointment

Licence, incorporation documents, ownership details, financial year, authority correspondence and the intended report users.

Books and reconciliations

Trial balance, general ledger, bank statements, receivables, payables, accruals, prepayments and opening balances.

Contracts and delivery

Customer agreements, campaign reports, project acceptance, sales invoices, credit notes and supplier or freelancer evidence.

People, assets and tax

Payroll, employee obligations, fixed assets, leases, shareholder balances, tax returns and related reconciliations.

Using Zoho Books, Odoo, Xero or QuickBooks?

Export the ledger and ageing reports for the same cut-off date. Reconcile opening balances, locked periods, multicurrency accounts and integrations. Software access does not replace the underlying contracts, invoices and approvals.

Fees and delivery

A tailored proposal based on the company profile.

Transaction volume, incomplete records, project complexity, currencies, related parties and additional reporting affect the work. Share your licence, year-end, trial balance, prior accounts and authority correspondence for a practical scope and quotation.

We do not offer a universal fixed audit package. Agree whether accounting cleanup, tax advice, management-letter observations or additional reports are included.

How the engagement progresses

  1. Confirm: appointment, independence, scope and reporting dates.
  2. Prepare: reconcile the records and assign evidence owners.
  3. Examine: answer queries and resolve accounting adjustments.
  4. Complete: approve the accounts, issue the report when appropriate and retain the final pack.

Confirm who submits any authority documents. Completion depends on sufficient evidence and approvals, not only the desired deadline.

Ask our team →
01Is an annual audit required for a Shams company?+

Article 62.3 of the published Shams Companies and Licensing Regulations 2024 requires company accounts to be examined and reported on by an auditor. Confirm any entity-specific direction or exemption with Shams; do not confuse the absence of a routine upload request with an exemption.

02How do I choose Shams approved auditors?+

The regulations define an auditor by reference to authority approval. Confirm the proposed signing firm’s current acceptance and the appointment procedure with Shams before engaging it. A trade licence or approval in another free zone is not, by itself, proof of Shams approval.

03What is the Shams audit submission deadline?+

Obtain the current filing instructions and deadline for your company directly from Shams. Distinguish accounts preparation, shareholder approval, authority submission and Corporate tax filing; they are not necessarily the same event.

04Is an audit needed for Shams licence renewal?+

Check the current renewal checklist for your legal entity and licence. A renewal procedure and an annual accounts obligation are different matters; successful licence renewal should not be treated as proof that no audit is required.

05Does a new or zero-revenue company need records?+

Yes. Formation expenses, licence fees, bank charges, shareholder funding and unpaid costs can exist before the first sale. Prepare complete records and confirm the applicable audit and reporting requirements rather than treating no sales as no activity.

06What documents should I prepare for a Shams audit?+

Start with the licence, incorporation records, financial year, trial balance, general ledger, bank reconciliations, prior accounts and current authority correspondence. Add customer contracts, supplier evidence, payroll, asset schedules, tax reconciliations and related-party balances.

07How much do Shams audit services cost?+

Fees depend on the company profile, transaction volume, contract complexity, record quality, reporting period and deliverables. SAIF Chartered Accountants provides a scoped proposal after reviewing the brief; there is no universal fixed package.

08How long will the audit take?+

Timing depends on complete records, third-party confirmations, accounting questions and management approvals. Agree an evidence list and milestones after the initial review. Neither a fixed completion date nor an unqualified opinion should be assumed before examination.

09Can you help with Shams bookkeeping and accounting software?+

Accounting preparation can be separately scoped, subject to independence safeguards. We can discuss records held in Zoho Books, Odoo, Xero, QuickBooks or another system and identify the exports, reconciliations and supporting schedules needed.

10Does a Shams licence automatically mean 0% Corporate tax?+

No. Assess the company’s activities, income and applicable tax conditions separately. Connect the tax analysis to reliable financial records rather than assuming that free-zone incorporation alone determines the outcome.

11Are Shams and Sharjah Publishing City the same free zone?+

No. Sharjah Media City (Shams) and Sharjah Publishing City (SPC) are separate free zones. Use the authority shown on your licence when checking appointment and reporting requirements.

12Is a liquidation report the same as an annual audit?+

No. Closing a company can require a distinct engagement, reporting date and authority process. Obtain the current closure requirements and agree the scope separately from the annual financial statement audit.
